This article examines historical and contemporary relationships between pedagogy, politics, and science. Three key stages are highlighted: Humboldt’s conception of education, the 1968 report of the German Education Council, and the federal-state initiative »Leistung macht Schule«. The analysis traces developments from the ideal of free education to increasing scientification and evidence-based policy. It shows how communication and cooperation between politics, science, and educational practice have evolved over time. The aim is to situate current developments within a broader historical and systematic framework.
